Measures for Japan's Revival

The Democratic Party of Japan has come into power and is sticking to its political platform. I appreciate their efforts to keep their promises. However, I bet, the policies will decelerate Japan's economy and worsen Japan's finances. In order to revive Japan, radical measures should be taken.

The DPJ is especially devoted to welfare and nursing, but such areas are the ones which consume taxes, and do not generate national income. In order to secure financial resources, the DPJ is going to curtail economically stimulative budgets.

First of all, the Japanese government should follow the constitution and reconsider illegal or improper spending. Subsidies to North Korean schools must be banned because Article 89 prohibits disbursements to operations which are not under Japan's public control. Welfare to foreigners should be eliminated because Article 25 does not guarantee economic security to foreigners at all. Additional welfare to single-mothers must not be re-instituted because it constitutes gender discrimination, violating Article 14 which guarantees equality under the law.

Next, we should not restrict Japan's domestic economic recovery plans. For instance, the U.S. has attracted companies and money from overseas even though the U.S. government is sunk in debt.

As is known, Japan's corporate tax burden is too heavy. The corporate tax rate is 30%, and, including local taxes, it adds up to some 40%, which is the highest among developed countries.

Japan should follow the example of Singapore, which is not even self-sufficient for water, much less farm produce. In Singapore, not only corporate taxes but also income taxes are law, and furthermore, there is no inheritance tax. Its tax system is obviously preferable for the wealthy, so it attracts rich people.

Japan should lower its corporate taxes, income taxes and inheritance taxes, and in addition, abolish progressive taxation. On the other hand, we should raise consumption tax rate, curtail welfare, satisfy competent or rich people, and encourage worthless people to leave Japan.

For progress, competition is requisite, and, as a result, economic disparity is inevitable. Those who loath disparity should live in a benign but poor country such as Bhutan. Never quail before disparity and take drastic measures for prosperity.
